Iran has put forward a seven-day proposal aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and restarting a broader diplomatic process with the United States.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the proposed timeline would begin once Washington accepts the plan. Under the proposal, Iran says the Strait could reopen after seven days if the required conditions are met.
The proposal comes as U.S. and Iranian representatives have been communicating indirectly through mediators in New York. The Strait of Hormuz has become a central issue in the wider confrontation because of its importance to global oil and gas shipping.
